Combi Tool v2.0

Guide to ordering and installing Combi Tool version 2.0 including wear part list and replacement guide

Limitations of the product

This manual is for version 2.0 - released for the 2026 growing season and does not cover earlier versions of the product.

This version of the Combi Tool does not work with row distances less than 30 cm. If you have row distances less than 30 cm, you should contact your local FarmDroid representative for instructions.

Function

The concept of the product is to move soil away from the plant, so the weeding knives do not cover the seedling with dirt when doing the first weeding. This is accomplished with a disk mounted in front of the weeding knife that moves the soil away from the row of seedlings. The disk also has the task of hinter build-up of plant residue on the stem of the knife, which in extreme cases can lead to the knife disrupting the root system of the seedling and subsequently killing the crop.

Later in the season, the rigidity and shape of the weeding knife can cut weeds like mature thistles and similar type plants. The placement of the knives in a pattern so they complete a full cut through the soil between the rows ensures clean fields throughout the season. The knives in version 2.0 are upgraded to 4 mm thickness for increased durability.

Tools are designed to have the ability to weed from 1 cm on either side of the center of the row up to 8 cm from the center on each side. Enabling the tool to be used throughout the entire growing season. For the narrow rows (Part number 102011089) please be aware that the height of the portal over the crop is 27 cm. This can in some crops limit the use of that tool towards the end of the season.

Recommended Combi Tool configurations

There are two main packages for the Combi Tool: one for robots with row distances of 30-43 cm and only active trailers, and one for robots with row distances of 43-51 cm and alternating active and passive trailers.

Setup for robots with row distances of 30-43 cm and only active trailers

For row distances between 30 and 43 cm only active trailers are fitted on the robot for weeding with the Combi Tool. For the right most row there might be exceptions please see configuration section later in this document.

For each row apart from the right most row you will therefore need the following Combi Tool to be placed on the active trailer:

1 x 102011108 - Combi Tool Row Dist 30-43cm Package Per Active Trailer

This Combi Tool package contains:

  • 1 x 102011087 - Combi tool left row side (on active trailer)

For weeding on the left side of the row

  • 1 x 102011089 - Combi tool right row side (on active trailer)

For weeding on the right side of the row

  • 1 x 102011104 - Stiffening bracket for trailer

For mounting the tool to the active trailer

This is how it looks when 102011108 - Combi Tool Row Dist 30-43cm Package Per Active Trailer is mounted on the robot (see the instructions below in this document):

OBS. Exception regarding the right most row:

Part number 102011089 only weeds 15.5 cm from the center of the row. Therefore, if the row distance is more than 31 cm on the right most row, you might need to mount other components to ensure complete weeding on the right side of the right most row of the robot. FarmDroid has the following solutions in this case:

Solution 1:

Purchase 1 x 102011108 for the right most row as well, knowing it will only clean 2 x 15.5 cm of the area between the 2 rows.

Solution 2:

Add a passive trailer to the right of the rightmost active trailer and order 1 x 102011107 for weeding of the last row. Keep in mind that 102011107 does not contain the passive trailer itself, so please ensure that there is room for the passive trailer on the tool beam to the right of the rightmost active trailer.

Solution 3:

Contact your FarmDroid representative to discuss what options are available for your setup.

Setup for robots with row distances of 43-51 cm and alternating active and passive trailers

This setup only works if the row distance is between 43 and 51 cm. If the distance is less than 43 cm, you should use the system without passive trailers as explained earlier

For each row you need:

1 x 102011107 - Combi Tool Row Dist 43-51cm Package Per Crop Row

This Combi Tool package contains:

  • 1 x 102011087 – Combi tool left row side (on active trailer)

Placed on the active trailer for weeding the left side of the row

  • 1 x 102011088 – Combi tool right row side (on passive trailer)

Placed on the passive trailer for weeding the right side of the row

  • 2 x 102011104 - Stiffening bracket for trailer

One of them is used to mount the tool to the active trailer and the other one for the passive trailer

The configuration for all active and passive trailers is very similar. This setup will weed the outside rows completely.

This is how it looks when 102011107 - Combi Tool Row Dist 43-51cm Package Per Crop Row is mounted on the robot (see the instructions below in this document)

Other configuration options

The Combi Tool can also be used on robots that have any other mix of active and passive trailers, but this is a special configuration, and you are advised to contact your local FarmDroid representative for instructions on setup and ordering.

Keep in mind that for mounting Combi Tool on all trailers (both active and passive) it is obligatory to stiffen the trailer frame with stiffening bracket part number 102011104:

This means, if you are ordering the following products alone, and not as part of the two packages explained above, then you must remember to order the stiffening brackets for each trailer you will mount the tools to:

102011087 – Combi tool left row side (on active trailer)

102011088 – Combi tool right row side (on passive trailer)

102011089 – Combi tool right row side (on active trailer)

Wear parts

There are 3 different knives for the Combi Tool. They are all upgraded to 4 mm thickness for increased durability. Order your wear part depending on the Combi Tool configuration you have.

  • 102012195 L-SHARE LEFT 45 DEG 4MM

45° angled for weeding on the left side of the crop

  • 102012216 L-SHARE LEFT 20 DEG 4MM

20° angled for rear knife for tool 102011087 to increase clearance with rear wheel

  • 102012197 L-SHARE RIGHT 45 DEG 4MM

45° angled for weeding on the right side of the crop

It is the same notched cutting disc for all tools - Part number 102012192

Bearings for the discs will wear out over time. Luckily, they are easily replaced by unscrewing the three screws holding the disc in place. When the screw behind the disc is unscrewed, the bearings can be removed.

It is paramount for the longevity of the new bearings that the cover disc marked in blue on the picture above (part number: 608ZAV) is replaced together with the bearings (part number: SS-608-2RS). Please also note the orientation of the cover disc.

Please note: After replacing the bearings, the disc may spin hard, this is caused by the cover disc adapting. After approx. 100 rotations the disc should run normally. Try to go deep in the ground with the tool for 100 m after replacing bearings.  This should put enough force on the disc to grind the cover disc in place.

Mounting the Combi Tool on the trailer

As mentioned earlier; to be able to mount the Combi Tool, it is important to first mount the stiffening bracket on the trailer. It is done (almost) identically on active and passive trailers.

Mounting Combi Tool on the active trailer:

Step 1: Loosen this part

Step 2: Replace the bolts shown in yellow with new ones shown in green. That requires dismounting of the weeding arm on active trailers. All needed bolts and parts are included in 102011104 - Stiffening bracket for trailer

Step 3: Mount the bracket (shown as A on the picture above) and remount parts from step 1. Do not tighten the nuts yet.

Step 4: Dismantle these bolts

And mount the yellow bolts and nuts. Do not tighten the nuts yet.

Step 5: Mount blue bolts and nuts and tighten all nuts.

Step 6: Now you can mount the Combi Tool on the stiffening bracket as shown below

Mounting the stiffening bracket on the passive trailer is easier as the part that needed to be loosened on the active trailer on Step 1 does not exist here. Simply skip the step 1 and follow the instructions for Step 2-5.

Step 6: Mount the Combi Tool part 102011088 – Combi tool right row side (on passive trailer) as explained in the Combi Tool package 102011107 - Combi Tool Row Dist 43-51cm Package Per Crop Row.
