Combi tools v2.0

Guide to ordering and installing Combi Tools version 2.0 including wear part list and replacement guide

Limitations on product.

This manual is for version 2.0 - released for the 2026 growing season, and does not cover earlier versions of the product.

This version of the Combi Tool does not work with row distances less than 30 cm. If you have row distances less than 30 cm, you should contact your local FarmDroid representative for instructions.

Function.

The concept of the product is to move soil away from the plant so the weeding knives do not cover the seedling with dirt when doing the first weeding. This is accomplished with a disk mounted in front of the weeding knife that moves the soil away from the row of seedlings. The disk also has the task of hinter build-up of plant residue on the stem of the knife, which in extreme cases can lead to the the knife disrupting the root system of the seedling and subsequently killing the crop.

Later in the season, the rigidity and shape of the weeding knife has the ability to cut weeds like mature thistles and similar type  plants. The placement of the knives in a pattern so they complete a full cut through the soil between the rows ensures clean fields throughout the season. The knives in version 2.0 are upgraded to 4 mm thickness for increased durability.

Tools are designed to have the ability to weed from 1 cm on either side of the center of the row up to 8 cm from the center on each side. Enabling the tool to be used throughout the entire growing season. For the narrow rows (Part number 102011089) please be aware that the height of the portal over the corp is 27 cm. This can in some crops limit the use of that tool in the end of the season.

Overall structure of the tool.

There are two main groups of the tool; one for robots with only active trailers and one for robots with alternating active and passive trailers. The tool can also be used on robots that have any other mix of of active and passive trailers, but this is a special configuration and you are advised to contact your local FarmDroid representative for instructions on setup and ordering.

For all trailers both active and passive mounted with the combi tool it is obligatory to stiffen the trailer frame with stiffening bracket part number 102011104:

Setup for robots with alternating active and passive trailers.

This setup only works if the row distance is between 43cm and 51cm. If the distance is less than 43cm you should use the system without passive trailers described below.

The system consist of a tool that is mounted on the active trailer and is responsible for weeding on the left side of the row. Part number is 102011087:

In the passive trailer the system has a combi tool fitted for weeding the right side of the row. Part number 102011088:

Setup for robots with only active trailers.

For row widths between 30 and 43 cm only active trailers are fitted on the robot for weeding with the combi tool system. For the left most row there might be exceptions please see configuration section later in this document. For weeding on the right side of the row part number 102011087 is used as shown in the section above. For the left side of the row part number 102011089 is used:

Fitting the tools on the trailer

Fitting the stiffness bracket on the trailer are identical on passive and active trailers. To mount it, it is required that the trailer is stripped. Unfortunately, the 2 bolts marked with red arrows in the drawing below are too short and needs to be replaced, and that requires dismounting of the weeding arm on active trailers. All needed bolts and parts are included in part number 102011104.

Fitting of left side combi tool on active trailers is easy after the fitting of the stiffness bracket:

Fitting the right side combi tool on a passive trailer:

Combi tool for both left and right side mounted on active trailer for running in rows between 30 and 43 cm.

Configurations

43 to 51 cm row distance alternating between active and passive trailers.

For each row you need:

1 x 102011087 - Weeding console Left 2 KN. For CT
1 x 102011088 - Weeding console Right 2 KN. For CT
2 x 102011104 - Stiffing bracket for trailer

Where 102011087 is placed on the active trailer and weeding the left side of the row.
And 102011088 is placed on the passive trailer and weeding the right side of the row

The configuration for all active and passive trailers are equal. This setup will weed the outside rows completely.

30 to 43 cm row distance with only active trailers

Here there are some issues with the left most row. Part number 102011089 only weeds 15,5 cm from the center of the row. Therefore if there are more than 31 cm between the rows on the left most row it is needed to replace part number 102011089 with a passive trailer mounted with 102011088 to ensure complete cleaning of the leftmost row between two passes of the robot. Alternatively there will be a strip of between the leftmost row of two passes that is not weeded completely.

For each row apart from the last left most one you will need the following to be placed on the active trailer :

1 x 102011087 - Weeding console Left 2 KN. For CT
1 x 102011089 - Weeding console Outside Right For CT
2 x 102011104 - Stiffing bracket for trailer

For the left most row, if row distances are more than 31 cm. you will need the following. If row distances is 31 cm or lower you just need the same setup as for all other rows above.

1 x 102011087 - Weeding console Left 2 KN. For CT
1 x 102011088 - Weeding console Right 2 KN. For CT
2 x 102011104 - Stiffing bracket for trailer
And one passive trailer fitted leftmost on the robot.

Wear parts:

There are 3 different knives for the Combi tool - All upgraded to 4 mm thickness for increased durability.:

102012195 - 45° angled for weeding on the left side of the crop.
102012216 - 20° angled for rear knife for tool 102011087 to increase clearance with rear wheel.
102012197 - 45° angled for weeding on the right side of the crop

It is the same cutting disc for all tools - Part number 102012192

Bearings for the discs will over time wear out they are easy replaced by unscrewing the three screws holding the disc in place. Then the screw in behind the disc is unscrewed and the bearings can be removed. It is paramount for the longevity of the new bearings that the cower disc - part number: 608AV is replaced together with the bearings - Part number: SS-608-2RS. Disc is marked in blue in the picture below. Please also note the orientation of the disc.
