Field Setup Tool: Base station v2.0 Preparation - VIDEO
This article explains how to align the FarmDroid FST with Base Station v2.0 and an external NTRIP caster, providing step-by-step instructions and important setup requirements for accurate field operations.
WARNING! ⚠️
-
This procedure must be completed individually for every farmer intending to use an FST with Base Station v2.0.
-
If the farmer changes the NTRIP caster for any reason, the entire procedure must be carried out again.
-
Using the FST with Base Station v2.0 means that any fields surveyed previously can no longer be used.
REASON FOR RUNNING THIS PROCEDURE
With Base Station v2.0, the FST requires an external NTRIP caster to achieve RTK-level accuracy.
This procedure is necessary because the external NTRIP caster (e.g., EUREF) and the FarmDroid Base Station operate on separate systems, each using slightly different coordinate grids (see IMAGE 1).
To ensure the external NTRIP caster and the FarmDroid Base Station are properly synchronized, follow the procedure outlined below.
This ensures that when you survey a point with the FST, it will match precisely with the corresponding point on the FarmDroid Base Station grid, as illustrated below.
The reason this procedure must be repeated each time an external NTRIP caster is changed in the FarmDroid App is that each caster introduces a new coordinate grid, which may not align with the FarmDroid Base Station, as shown in the image below.
It is fundamental to select a single external base station (such as NTRIP CASTER "A") and remain consistent with that choice. If you decide to use a different external base station (for example, NTRIP CASTER "B"), you must repeat the entire procedure.
This change will create a mismatch on all fields previously registered with the original caster, resulting in the loss of those field records and rendering them unusable for robot operations.
PROCEDURE TO ALIGN THE FD BASE STATION WITH AN EXTERNAL NTRIP CASTER
Before preparing a Field Setup Tool for customers with Base Station v2.0, please ensure the following three prerequisites are met:
-
Ensure the customer has an active FarmDroid App account and the latest version installed on their smartphone.
-
Ensure the farmer has access to a 3rd-party NTRIP stream. If not, register for one—such as the EUREF - NTRIP caster (link)
-
Please note that the correct domain for the EUREF link must be ".be" (not ".de") 😎👍
-
Be sure to complete your registration early, as confirmation may take several days to process.
-
-
Assign the Field Setup Tool to the farmer’s account within the FarmDroid App.
Once all prerequisites are met, proceed with the following steps:
STEP 1
Open the FarmDroid App on the farmer’s phone, navigate to the "Tools" section at the bottom of the screen, and select the Field Setup Tool.
STEP 2
Select "Base Station," then tap "Add base station."
STEP 3
Enter all required details from the NTRIP caster, including your USERNAME and PASSWORD, and save the configuration. Then close the app.
If you are using the EUREF network, select the base station nearest your location using the EUREF - Base Stations MAP.
EXAMPLE 😁👇
The image below shows an example of the screen when adding the Base Station "RANT00DEU0" from the EUREF network. Remember to enter both the username and password before saving.
Be sure to accurately enter the base station name—paying close attention to the difference between "0" (zero) and "O" (letter)—as well as the correct username and password.
Unless specified otherwise by the NTRIP provider, the default port number is 2101.
STEP 4
Refer to the video guide for instructions on configuring Base Station v2.0 for use with the Field Setup Tool.
STEP 5
The procedure is now complete. Please continue with the next guide - Field Setup Tool: How to use it.
